Harvesting Tales: An October Lookback

Welcome to the October Wrap-Up. This month was a mixed one: I went home, had a few tech changes, I turned 20, became a Student Ambassador, and spent a lot of time with my friends.

Missing home

I made a surprise trip home to see my family because I didn’t realise how much I’d missed them (despite being gone for only two weeks). We went out for lunch before being taken back to the train station to go home.

The tech adventure

This month I had a few technological mishaps but also an “advancement”. I got to turn my dinky gaming laptop set-up into a “big boy” set-up, an actual PC and everything. However, when the monitor came it had cracked so that it needed to be sent back, then a new one came. It was promising until the end of the month where it went kaput so we changed monitors and it’s working so happy days. Sadly, at the end of the month my portable laptop decided to dislike intelliJ and completely wrecked it by being met with a constant blue screen, which was eventful, however my dad (my personal tech support) is gonna take a look and fingers crossed.

The 2024 accommodation search

The group and I went on the hunt for a place to stay together next year, we did a whole range of different options. We looked into house shares, where we did 4 viewings, but in the end we decided it was easier / more beneficial to go down the accommodation / flat route which we managed to settle on one which seems pretty neat so now we wait for December to book it.

My birthday

I turned the big 20 this month. My mom came to visit me with her parents to celebrate during the weekend. We went to the pier and I showed them around Bournemouth, it was pretty fun. My flatmate and friends planned a small celebration for me on the day after our labs and lectures. Firstly, my flatmate made us my favourite breakfast (French toast) and we rode the bus to campus together. Most of the day was uneventful until I got home. We had a movie night to watch my favourite movie (Big Hero 6), and opened my cards and presents. Naturally, they weren’t normal cards: I got two christmas cards (addressed to dads), a baby girl congrats card, “get well soon” and “goodbye” cards, finally a spiderman birthday card. There were around 50 balloons my flatmate single handedly inflated (she found out after our accom had a balloon pump, she wasn’t a happy camper to say the least haha), to which I have “caged” in my room until they deflated.

Student Ambassador

In September I applied to become a Student Ambassador for BU and I got the job so I completed all the online training modules and did my first shift (an open day). I had fun going to my subject talk and generally helping out, getting to talk to prospective students and helping them decide things they need to consider for university delighted me.

Halloween

The “house” group went to watch the Five Nights of Freddy’s movie for our halloween hang out. Of course we stopped for cheap snacks at Lidl first.

TL;DR: I missed home, got a PC set-up and my little laptop crapped out, found a student accom for next year with my friends, because a Student Ambassador for my uni and I turned the big 20
